A look back at the last eight seasons…

2022-23

Starters: Jackson Clausius (Junior), Drew Barnesky (Junior), Alex McCoy (Senior), Alex Dupree (Senior), Alan Horton (Freshman)

Reserves: Nick Campbell (Junior), Logan Horton (Sophomore), Nik Echelmeyer (Junior), Carson Holmes (Freshman), Vin Bentley (Junior), Anthony Rammuny (Senior), Austin Pfenning (Junior), Alex Murray (Junior)

Prior to beginning play, the 2022-2023 Wildcats appeared to be in a “rebuilding” mode, having lost eight seniors from the record-breaking 2021-2022 team. However, the young Wildcats proved to only be re-LOADING as they began the season winning ten of their first eleven games. The Wildcats finished a respectable 16-7, the seventh most wins in school history. The season ended in overtime of the Sectional Championship at Lakota High School, where the Cats succumbed to a poor shooting night.

Junior guard Drew Barnesky led the team in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game and earning second team District 7 and Northern Lakes League honors. Freshman center Alan Horton led the team in rebounds and earned third team Northern Lakes League honors. The Wildcats lose three seniors - Alex McCoy, Alex Dupree and Anthony Rammuny - returning a great core of players for the 2023-2024 campaign.

The 2021-2022 season was another to remember forever! The Wildcats finished the regular season as the highest scoring team in Ohio (77 points per game) in Division 1 and with the highest average margin of victory. For their efforts, they finished the regular season ranked #4 in Division 1 in Ohio.

The Wildcats went a perfect 14-0 in the NLL en route to their fourth title in seven years, won their sixth Sectional championship in that time and for the first time in school history won the Division 1 District Championship with a victory over Whitmer at Central. In the Regional Semi-Finals, the Wildcats were beaten on a buzzer beater by Lima Senior when an opponent hit a 3pt shot with his foot on the sideline that unfortunately was not called. Although a tough way to end, the kids had nothing but pride to feel as they represented their school incredibly well, beating all but one opponent they faced on the season. The Wildcats finished 24-2, a school record for victories!

A senior-laden team, the Wildcats were led by the impressive duo of Sean Craig and Kasey Hunt, who were the top two vote getters for the District 7 and all-NLL teams. Grant Kopan and Kenny Biggs also earned all league and District honors. Sean Craig was named First Team All Ohio and Toledo Blade Player of the Year for the second consecutive year! He is also one of only three players in NWO history to win the District 7 Player of the Year award THREE times! Kasey Hunt was also named 2nd Team All NW District and Honorable Mention on the All Ohio Team. Grant Kopan was Third Team All NW District. The Cats also received great contributions from Senior starter Braden Tackett and Sophomore 6th man Drew Barnesky.

Sean exits Northview after a truly historic career, where he holds the following records:

Career records: Points, Rebounds (all 3 categories), 2pt FG, FTM, FTA, Games, Starts, Wins

Season records: Points, PPG, Rebounds (all 3 categories), 2pt FT, FTM

The 2020-21 season is one we will remember forever. The season was always in danger of ending at any time. On December 4, 2020, after beginning the season 3-0, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department implemented a 5 ½ week “pause” on all extracurricular activities (including sports) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season resumed on January 9, 2021 and the Wildcats finished the regular season playing 19 games in 42 days! Nonetheless, the Wildcats emerged as one of the area’s best teams, finishing the regular season as NLL Tournament Champions and entering the state tournament as the 4th seed in Division 1.

The Wildcats claimed a sectional title and defeated Ashland in the District semi’s to again advance to a District Final, where their season would be ended by a 67-73 loss to Lima Senior. The Wildcats finished 21-4, the second best record in school history. The Wildcats team averaged a program record 72.3 points per game.

Sean Craig again led the Wildcats and was named District 7 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and became the second Wildcats’ player in history to be named First Team All-Ohio and the Player of the Year for the Toledo Blade and the OPSWA Northwest District. A junior, Sean became the all-time career leader in all three rebounding categories. He will enter his senior season two points from tying Aerin West’s all-time scoring record. Kasey Hunt, a major transfer addition also stood out for the Wildcats and was named to the District 7 and NLL 1st teams, as well as Special Mention All-Ohio. Senior Justin Noe was 2nd team All-District and NLL.

In a “rebuilding” year, the Wildcats overcame a rough (3-5) start to finish the regular season 12-10. Playing their best basketball in February/March, the Wildcats went on an impressive run, winning three tough playoff games against Mansfield Madison, NLL champion (18-4) Perrysburg and TRAC runner-up (16-7) Central Catholic. For their work, the Wildcats advanced to the division 1 District Championship for the first time in school history. Down two points with 0.9 seconds to play, the Wildcats completed the most memorable play in school history when Brendon Sharp threw a 90 foot inbound pass to a wide-open Justin Noe to send the game to overtime, where the Wildcats eventually lost. The Wildcats finished 15-11 and won their fourth Sectional Championship in five years.

Sophomore Sean Craig had a historic individual season, leading the NLL in scoring and rebounding and breaking Northview's school record for points and rebounds (offensive, defensive and total) in a season. He also became the school's all-time leader in CAREER offensive rebounds 14 games into his sophomore season. Sean was named All-Ohio second team, made The Blade's first team and was District 7 Player of the Year, among other honors.
